The weight of their wants and schemes
Day after night, night after day,
Turn into heaving winds that hide my screams.
A dark shadow on my life, their eye casts.
But now I know— there is a way
Flowers turn to fruits even in freezing wind blasts.
Your melody now lives in my thoughts.
It’s strung together a promise that soothes,
That eases my nerves, detangles my knots.
There’s pain in your voice— my pain inside,
Yet you showed me the transience of it all:
Seasons, sufferings, even joys— away they glide.
Your words of comfort dispelled my gloom—
I press on against this storm today
Only waiting for freedom to bloom.
That promise in your voice— I sing it to myself.
It stirs the winds of change, and heralds
A life that’s more than trophies on my shelf.
Creator Statement
This poem is a reflection on the song “everythingoes” by RM, from his album, mono.
The lyrics have left a lasting impact on me and my understanding of living in a world that is ever changing. I have felt anxious and pressured into living up to the standards of society for the longest time. When I came across this song, it felt as if someone was comforting me and telling me that all that pain and suffering I feel shall pass. The song and its lyrics have been cathartic for me. My heart was overcome with emotions when I heard it and understood the meaning. It has since then become a comfort for me whenever I feel held back by the pressures of life. Through this poem, I have tried to express my feelings of how this song has transformed my life.
